Nigeria and Mexico established formal diplomatic relations on 14th April, 1976. However, in 1979 Mexico closed its diplomatic Mission in Nigeria and in 1984 Nigeria closed its Mission in Mexico due to budgetary constraints. In years 2000 and 2008, respectively, Nigeria and Mexico re-opened diplomatic Missions in the capital of each other’s countries and have maintained excellent bilateral relations.
