Inauguration of the Mexico-Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group

On 16th March, 2022 the Ambassador received in audience Mr. Roberto Valenzuela Corral, member of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies, accompanied by his wife Irma Macia de Valenzuela, and two other officials of the Chamber of Deputies – Messrs. Aldo Tafolla and Jesus de la Torres. The Meeting was at the instance of Mr. Corral to discuss modalities for the inauguration of the Mexico-Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group, to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and Mexico, in areas of common interest.

 

Accordingly on 20th April, 2022, Mission and the Chamber of Deputies of the 65th Congress of the Union of the United Mexican States inaugurated the Parliamentary Friendship Group between Nigeria and Mexico. The ceremony was co-chaired by Ambassador Rafiu Adejare and Deputy Roberto Valenzuela Corral, Chairman of the Mexico- Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group. The Ambassador was accompanied to the event by all home-based officers of the Mission and representatives of the Nigerian community in Mexico. Participants on the side of the host included a cross-section of members of the Chamber of Deputies; Ambassador Alfredo Miranda, Ambassador-designate of Mexico to Nigeria; Amparo Anguiano, Director-General of the Directorate for Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East of the host Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE); and other distinguished members of the Foreign Ministry. The inauguration of the Mexico-Nigeria Parliamentary Friendship Group is expected to pave way for purposeful actions by the two countries to expand the spectrum of subsisting collaborations, amplify the opportunity to learn from each other, and cultivate relations in prioritised and diverse areas of interest, for mutual benefit.
